PeaceHealth is buying 2 of my paintings

I got a call on Saturday from an art locator / buyer who is responsible for finding art for the new PeaceHealth hospital in Vancouver WA.  She said they've been looking for Nortwest artists to show, and really like my work.  Today she came out to Battle Ground and visited me at my studio, and plans to purchase 2 of my paintings, possibly a 3rd.  I'm pretty excited about it!  It's nice to know that people are interested and appreciate my work.  I think the river and rock scenes will fit very nicely in a hospital environment.  They need to have a lot of room and space - I'm thrilled that they

Small Pools and mossy rocks of a Northwest river

Took almost 2 months to paint, and I tried to work on it at least 2 hours every day.

Here's a new river painting. Water and rocks!

Started on this new one yesterday. Like the hi-tech laptop holder?  I need to figure out something a little shorter for when I want to sit down and paint.

How I feel when I look at other artists work

I spend a lot of time looking at the work of some really amazing artists online.  One of the great things about Facebook and artist's blogs is that I can actually connect with these artists, and follow them - and learn from them.  These are some of the most amazing and talented artists in the world and we have the ability to see what they do and how they work on almost a day-to-day basis.

Instructive Art Links, for inspiration and learning

Lately I've read some really wonderful how-to articles on various topics, and I didn't want to lose track of them because I know I'll want to go back again and again.  So here's a list of some of my favorites:

Howard Lyon's explanation of Color & Light.  He shows how and why we should select a limited color pallete, and how light works - with particular emphasis on skin tones.  Wonderful explanation and examples!

Minor key music, and emotional complexity in art

I listened to this story on NPR yesterday about the interesting change in our musical tastes.

"...unambiguously happy-sounding music has become, over time, to sound more like a cliche.

Studio is getting close to done..

Well, this project we started about a year & 1/2 ago, with the idea to build onto our house is slowing getting done.  We're building a new art studio / office.  Space for art has always been a challenge in our family of 7, and a 4 bedroom house..  but since I've been working at home for the past 4 years, it's even tighter.  Luckily, my brother-in-law is a contractor!  Still, it's seriously expensive to attempt something like this..

Showing all my old sketches

Well, this might be a bit crazy, but I was going through 5 sketchbooks I've filled up over the past several years, and just decided to go ahead and photograph them and post them all to my website.  The reason I say that's a bit nuts is just because I hadn't really intended for my sketchbook drawings to actually ever see the light of day.  I have basically one rule for my sketchbook...  that is this:  pretty much anything goes.  This is my place to let loose - and just draw carefree.  I'm
