New Portrait, Garrett
I'm really happy with how this painting turned out. This is my son Garrett, 9 years old.
I had started on this prior to attending the Kassan workshop, in fact I thought I was pretty close to done with it. I wasn't happy with the eyes, and felt like when I got home I needed to spend more time and re-paint them. As the workshop progressed I realized - no, I could do a ton of more painting on this portrait. I thought, if David were to sit here in front of this "finished" portrait, he would paint for another 2-3 days on it.
So that's exactly what I did when I got home. I started in on it with the small Isabey #2 brush, just working in the little "micro-glazes" as David called them.. building up the layers and trying to very carefully and delicately find all those areas that needed work. I probably spent another 8-10 hours going over the painting. I think it turned out really nice.
